South Butler Community Meals on Wheels delivered
its first meals on September 9, 1998, which means we
have serviced the needs of our neighbors for over 23 years
in two counties.
SBCMOW FAST FACTS
- Volunteers prepare meals and set up delivery containers.
- A team of volunteer drivers deliver meals three days each week.
- We serve Saxonburg, Valencia, Mars, Gibsonia and Penn Township.
- We use 7 routes with roundtrips of 15 to 46 miles to serve our clients.
- Currently we deliver to 66-70 clients.
- We prepare over 19,000 meals each year.
- SBCMOW receives ZERO government funding!
FUNDRAISING KEEPS OUR WHEELS TURNING
In our early days, we held a Community Ox-Roast at the Lions Park sponsored by Dave’s Meats, an “Eat and Match Funds” period with the Eat-n-Park on Route 8, and a Benefit Luncheon at Glade Run Church.
HOW WE GET THE FOOD TO DELIVER
We have used several food delivery companies over the years. We currently use Reinhart Food Service for large quantity foods and supplies such as canned goods, meats, vegetables, packing containers, and paper products. Marburger Farm Dairy..
We also receive donations of food and other goods from individuals and organizations. Local churches and organizations provide our desserts.
DIRECTORS KEEP US RUNNING SMOOTHLY
Directors welcome new clients, coordinate volunteer schedules, and make sure our operation runs smoothly. Margaret Gebhart has been our director since 2006.
